I’ve just read Boris Vian’s novel »Froth on the Daydream« (L’Écume des jours), a little treasure chest holding an abundance of surreal ideas – details as well as whole scenes – and slowly changing from the vivid and sparkling to the oppressive and gloomy. A captivating read! – Without his congenially brillant song »Je bois« occurring in Kaurismäki’s movie »La vie de bohème«, though, I’d probably never have heard about Vian and never would have looked him up on Wikipedia and learned that he was not only a musician but also a writer (and more).
