17 June

17 June used to be a national holiday in West Germany to commemorate the 1953 uprising in the GDR. It was replaced by 3 October after the reunification. I wonder if we shouldn’t have kept the former memorial day, too. – On the other hand, it might have degenerated into just another day off, with a background no one knows or cares about any longer …
