Heyoka’s Workbench

Córdoba

The other day, after an eternal lull, I dared sit down in a public place once again and try some architectural sketches.

After the first strokes, it became clear that – unsurprisingly – I’m back at beginner’s level regarding this subset of the illustrator’s skills, namely sketching from nature, be it persons, things or sceneries.

Being good at drawing from your memory or imagination does not help you much, and even less so does being good at drawing from photo reference (which is easiest of all, though usually most impressing to lay audiences).

Sketching from nature requires and trains perception above all as well as the important skills of telling essence from adornment and doing with a limited set of tools.
